There are two virtual Pre-Conference dates available in 2023: March 13 at 6-8 pm and April 16 at 2-4 pm.
The Area 51 Pre-Conference events provide an opportunity to involve, inform and inspire our members and our current and future AA leaders via a more thorough understanding of the General Service Conference structure and process. Additionally, the Pre-Cons provide feedback from our membership on the challenges and opportunities facing AA as a whole. The process comes alive thru participation, discussion, and debate. Pre-Conferences are hosted in three geographical regions of North Carolina (East, Central, and West) and one for the Spanish Language districts. Attendees at each Pre-Conference choose to participate in one of six different work groups. The workgroup will then discuss the agenda items of most interest and/or as requested by the Delegate. Each work group will have DCMs and Alternate DCMs who have the agenda items and background material for their assigned work group. They will have participated in the Mock Conference in this same workgroup at the Winter Committee meeting. They are available as a resource, to answer questions and to provide clarification.
During the ‘Report Back session’, the workgroups will come together and share their views, opinions, and thoughts on the agenda items with all Pre-Conference attendees. After participating in the four Pre-Conferences, our Delegate is given an opportunity to understand how our Area AA members feel about the more important agenda items. The members are provided an opportunity to express their views about the important challenges and issues facing AA today. Our Delegate is the ‘trusted servant’ for the groups insuring communications between AA members, groups, and AA’s General Service Conference. Our Delegate is an informed delegate, not an instructed delegate; and attends the General Service Conference prepared to help ensure all decisions are for the well-being of AA as a whole! Be Involved, Be Informed, Be Inspired…..Be of Service!!
